The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has confirmed that a single horse from a farm in Prince William County was euthanized on Thursday, May 21st due to the neurological disease, Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy. Post-mortem test results showed the horse was “suspect-positive” for the neurological strain of EHV-1.
The report indicates that the horse had not traveled recently and no other horses at the location showed any signs of the disease. Still, all horses on the farm will be monitored for 21 days past the date of the initial horse’s euthanization.
